Make-up Video
Before we began filming for our thriller video we decided to use Make-up. In this clip Rosie Conlon is the one putting the Make-up on John Stammers' face.
For the make-up, we decided that John should look tired and restless, as in most psychological thrillers the lead character often looks worst for wear. With that in mind, we highlighted his cheek bones, to give them a sunken look, and added dark make up under his eyes so he would look tired.

Examples Of Thriller Posters
These are examples of thriller posters that are influential towards our own thriller poster. As you can see most of these posters have a close-up on the face, this is to portray that they are going to be the main character, and will be victim but most likely the antagonist. Close-ups immediately make the audience asks questions about the character and it can build suspense.
There are examples of Masks which are associated with a thriller because they project fear into the audience. Masks can be scary because they can represent a monster rather than a human.
Masks create a element of horror in a thriller, as its most likely someone trying to hide their identity.
In some of these posters you can spot the colour red, with associates with a thriller because the common connotations of red in a thriller are danger, anger, blood etc.

Location
I, John Stammers, received a text from Sam Ranaghan asking about where we going to film our scenes for our thriller. I told him what Rosie and I discussed as well as told him about the parks/playgrounds I was aware of.
We thought that my house had a good aesthetic for the thriller, as it is not completely modern in decoration, so it looks a less like a set and more like a real house, which is good for adding realism to our thriller, as not everyone lives in a modern up to date house.
The playground also helps add realism as it is urban, with a supermarket not 2 minutes from it, and you can faintly hear the traffic now and again, which we could use to our advantage as diegetic sound.
As a group we decided that we could use the Sainsbury's Park as one of our locations. This become one of our ideas because this park is usually quiet which is beneficial for us, but also I don't think a lot of groups have chosen this idea.
I think the idea of having a park in a thriller opening is fairly original, and I think using this is beneficial to a psychological thriller because they are commonly portrayed as a mysterious, and suspenseful location and also a park is a recognizable place for the audience as nearly everyone had memories of visiting the park.

Oedipus Script
In this video John Stammers acts out the script he and Rosie had written for our opening. This may not be the final script we use because we discovered it does take quite a while to get through the dialogue. But this is a rough plan of what will happen in our opening to establish the plot.
When John has the mask on he is taking on the role of the antagonist. He also deepens his voice a little to contrast the high pitch voice of the child-like protagonist.

Oedipus Explanation
Oedipus is a strange title and we know from our responses to our questionnaires that not everyone understands what it means. So we thought it was a good idea to explain what it meant and should make our plot and concept to our thriller more believable and easier to understand.

Masks
In this video we look at why we might want to use a mask in our psychological thriller. This is also part of our costume so I decided to do some research into masks. I looked at why they were used in the films they belong to and what effect they had on the audience.
Influences
Now that we have decided our thriller will be a psychological thriller and the protagonist/antagonist will have a split personality, we thought it was best to do some research into other films and find out how they have presented split personalities. I also looked at how they can shock the audience, project fear and hoped to learn how to effectively present a character with two personalities.
I also thought it would be worthwhile to look at sound and see how they are used in thrillers as well as look at costume. After extensive research I can say we have a few good ideas for our own thriller.

Preliminary Storyboard Explained
This is the video that explains what the drawings in the previous post meant. Here we go through each step of our storyboard whilst providing a BRIEF outline of our plot and what happens in it.
However we can't guarantee how long this will make our opening nor are we certain on what we can and cannot do for certain parts of it. So we are expecting, to an extent, to deviate from this plan.

Focus Group
I conducted a focus group from my film studies class mates, to find out what they thought about thrillers. Using this information my group can now understand a younger demographic and have a better idea on what thrillers work the best.
